How to Create a Fun Easter Egg Hunt for Your Dog (with Natural Treats)

How to Create a Fun Easter Egg Hunt for Your Dog (with Natural Treats)

Easter isn’t just for humans - your dog deserves some springtime fun too! A dog friendly Easter egg hunt is a great way to keep your dog entertained, mentally stimulated, and fuelled with natural goodness (no fake chocolate here).

Here’s how to pull off the paw-fect Easter egg hunt for your dog using natural treats your dog will love.

Why an Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs?

Dogs love to sniff, search and snack - so this activity ticks all the boxes. It encourages enrichment, taps into their natural foraging instincts, and adds a sprinkling of Easter fun.

What You’ll Need:

  1. A safe space indoors or in the garden
  2. Dog-safe Easter eggs (plastic ones with ventilation holes - just don't leave unsupervised) or hide treats as they are.
  3. Natural, delicious dog treats - think Dewkes' fishy bites, porky scratchings, chicken jerky and beefy sticks.

How to Set It Up:

Step 1: Prep the Treats

Choose treats with big smell (natural dog treats are best for this) - something your dog will work for! If using plastic eggs, pop a treat or two inside and leave them slightly open so the scent escapes. Or just hide the treats on their own for a more natural, scent-led hunt.

Step 2: Create Your Hunt Zone

Scatter the eggs or treats around your chosen space - under flowerpots, tucked in grass, behind furniture or inside toys. Make it easy at first, then increase the difficulty for extra fun.

Step 3: Release the Hound!

Let your dog sniff, search and snack to their heart’s content. Stay nearby to supervise and cheer them on (and maybe take a few adorable videos…).

Bonus Idea: A Water Version!

If the sun’s out, fill a shallow paddling pool and float a few open eggs with treats inside, or place a favourite treat at the bottom for them to nose dive for. A splashy twist that’s perfect for water-loving pups!

A Few Tips:

  1. Avoid chocolate and artificial treats - stick to healthy, natural dog treats.
  2. Always supervise to make sure no plastic gets chewed.
  3. Make it a family event! Get kids involved in hiding the treats and cheering the dog on.
